ELECTION RESULTS TO BE BROADCAST VIA SMS The Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Russian Federation has reached an agreement with major cell phone providers on informing clients about the course of upcoming elections to the State Duma on December 2, 2007 via SMS.
Those requesting information will receive updates regularly on election day via SMS, announced Vladimir Churov, chairman of the CEC. He added that after 21:00 exit poll results would be sent via SMS as well.
Churov also mentioned that the CEC would provide the information for free to cell phone companies, but that clients would have to pay “the normal fee” for receiving the messages.
Mr. Churov also commented that so far not a single political party has presented its complete list of candidates to the Commission. Parties are required to submit their lists upon concluding their party congresses. Thus far only the following parties have had their congresses: Yabloko, the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), the Green Party and the Party of Peace and Unity.
